Happy Cooking!

Servings: 5-6 pcs

Prep Time: 30 mins

Cooking Time: 20 mins

Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

Filling: Use any dumpling filling you like or want. I like to use something that is easy to pipe making it easier to assemble. My favorite filling is the Truffle Cream cheese, click here for the recipe.

Assembly & Serving:

  • 15-18 Round Wonton/dumpling wrappers (3 per dumpling)

  • Artificial or natural food coloring to color the roses

    • Pink artificial or use a mixture of beet and pomegranate juice. To make it brighter, add a few drops of white food coloring

    • Yellow artificial or use Turmeric mixed with water

    • Blue artificial or use Sweet pea flower water

    • Green artificial or use spirulina water

  • Any dipping sauce to serve with

Directions:

  1. Filling- Prepare the filling of your choice and let it cool.

  2. Assemble- Place 3 dumpling wrappers on a work surface. If you are using a work surface that can stain easily, place parchment paper over it.

  3. Brush the colored water along the top and bottom edges of the wonton wrapper.

  4. Join the wrappers overlapping the side edges like in the video.

  5. Pipe/fill a little filling in the center of each wrapper. Do not overfill or the dumplings will be huge.

  6. Carefully fold them in half lengthwise keeping them interlinked. Use the colored water if needed to seal them close.

  7. Gently roll the folded wrapper over itself to form a rose, like in the video. Use the color water on the two edges to seal them shut.

  8. Optional: brush little colored water on the outside of the dumpling to give more color to the rose. If you do that, let it air dry for 1-2 minutes so it’s less sticky and easier to handle.

  9. Repeat for all dumplings and keep them shaped under a damp towel.

  10. Cook- Place the dumplings in a steamer that’s slightly greased. Do not overcrowd it.

  11. Place the steamer in the wide pan and steam for 8-12 minutes till completely cooked. Time depends on the steamer and the size of the dumplings. These dumplings are bigger so they take more time to steam.

  12. Serve with chili crunch and soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes/Tips:

  • While shaping the dumpling make sure it is sealed shut.

  • If you don’t have a bamboo steamer, you can use a stainless steel steamer that comes in a lot of pots and pans sets. Layer with parchment paper on the base and grease it and then place the dumplings.

  • Do not overcrowd the steamer.

  • Practice makes perfect, as you shape them, the better it will get.

  • The ingredients should be finely chopped so that they do not break the dumpling wrapper

  • Artificial coloring usually gives a brighter and darker shade than natural coloring.

  • Use the colored water as needed to seal.
