Veggie Slaw Dumplings

Dumplings are a staple at home, my husband can literally inhale dumplings when he wants to. These dumpling are filled with slaw mixture (Cabbages and carrots- not the mayo mixture lol) mixed with some delicious spices and sauces and steamed in a dumpling wrapper. It’s a great way to use your remaining veggies and get that fibre! It is got a great balance of flavors with a kick of spice. I’ve been making these for him because it’s just been so so easy to make with ingredients we always have at home. They are always very healthy and an absolute quick fix for any meal. We make these at least twice a month, cause why not? If you use Vegan dumpling wrappers, these are Vegan!

Happy Cooking!

Servings: 12-16 pcs

Prep Time: 10-15 mins

Cooking Time: 20 mins

Total Time: 30-35 mins

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 medium Onion finely chopped

  • 4-5 cloves Garlic finely chopped

  • 1 tsp Ginger paste/finely grated

  • 1.5 cups Slaw mix

  • 1 tsp Sweet chilli sauce

  • 1/2 tsp Sriracha

  • 1/4 tsp Vinegar

  • 1 tsp Soy sauce

  • Salt to taste

  • Pepper to taste

  • Chilli flakes as per spice level

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 12-16 Wonton/dumpling wrappers

Directions:

  1. In a pan add sesame oil. When it warms up add finely chopped onions and cook on low-medium heat for 4-6 mins till it starts becoming translucent.

  2. Add garlic and cook for 3-4 mins till they start to brown slightly.

  3. Once the onion and garlic are well cooked, add the slaw mixture and mix it together till it starts wilting.

  4. Add the ginger paste/grated ginger and cook it in for 1-2 mins.

  5. Add the salt, pepper, chilli flakes and all the sauces- sriracha, soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce and vinegar & mix it all in.

  6. Mix till it’s all combined and the veggies are soft. Let it cool slightly and then fill in the wrappers.

  7. Place the mixture in dumpling wrapper and fold. ( I have shown a method with square wrappers in the video)

  8. Boil some water in a wide pan. Size of the pan depends on the steamer.

  9. Place the dumplings in a steamer. Do not overcrowd it.

  10. Place the steamer in the wide pan and steam for 3-6 minutes till completely cooked. Time depends on the steamer and size of dumplings.

  11. Check to see if they are done after 3-4 minutes of steaming. They should be translucent and glossy with no opaque spots.

  12. Serve with a chilli soy sauce.

Tips/Notes:

  • The ingredients should be finely chopped so that they they do not break the dumpling wrapper

  • Depending on your steamer, you may want to slightly grease it.

  • Do not overcrowd the steamer.

  • If you don’t have the slaw mix you can make your own- Shred cabbage, red cabbage, and grate carrots together.

  • You can freeze these and keep. Steam them without thawing. It may take 1 or 2 min while cooking.
