Happy Cooking!

Servings: 4-6 servings

Prep Time: 20 mins

Cooking Time: 20-30 mins

Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

  • 1.25-1.5 cups pizza sauce

  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese shredded

  • 1 sheet/8.5-9 oz puff pastry sheet thawed

  • 1-1.5 tbsp olive oil to brush/drizzle

  • 2-4 tbsp parmesan cheese grated

  • 7-10 basil leaves

  • 1/2 small white onion cut into thin slices; optional

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F.

  2. Assembly: Place the thawed puff pastry sheet on a parchment-lined baking tray and gently roll it out a little bit using a rolling pin. You don’t want it too thin.

  3. Leaving about an inch along the edges, use a butter knife and make a border. Do not press down all the way and cut through, just gently press down. Use a work/ knife and press down along the inside of the border of the puff pastry. This helps the edge puff up.

  4. Spread about 1/2-2/3 cup pizza inside the border of the puff pastry. You want to spread a very thin layer.

  5. Bake for 12 minutes at 400F.

  6. Carefully take out the tray from the oven. Spread the remaining pizza sauce over the baked sauce. Top with cheese over the puff pastry, inside the border.

  7. Top with the sliced onions over the cheese as you want.

  8. Drizzle a little olive oil over the cheese and carefully brush olive oil along the edges.

  9. Bake at 400F for 10-15 mins, rotating the tray midway. The puff pastry should be golden brown and crispy.

  10. Once out of the oven let it cool for 2-3 mins.

  11. Garnish with basil and grate some parmesan over it.

  12. Slice and enjoy!

Notes/Tips:

  • You can use store-bought or homemade pizza sauce. I like to use homemade. Make sure whatever you use, it is not very liquid.

  • Use the best quality olive oil you can get.

  • If you can’t find shredded mozzarella cheese you can use Amul.

  • Make sure to press down to make the border and then inside the border so you get an even puff pastry with an even edge.

  • You can use any toppings you like, just make sure not to overlap too many.,

  • For vegan use plant based cheeses, most of the puff parties I have found in the markets in the USA are vegan-friendly.
