Servings: 6-8 servings

Prep Time: 20-30 mins

Chilling Time: 8+ hours

Total Time: 8+ hours

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Heavy Cream

  • 1/3 cup orange juice; I used the juice from fresh oranges

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • Zest from 1/2 orange

  • 4-5 navel oranges

  • Optional garnish: Milk chocolate shavings, sugar to brulee or orange segments

Directions:

  1. Cut the oranges in halves. Scoop the pulp out from the halves carefully keeping the skin intact so that you can serve in them.

  2. Squeeze the juice out of the oranges. Keep aside.

  3. Put a saucepan on low-medium heat and add the heavy cream, sugar, and orange zest. Bring it to a low boil and let it simmer on low heat for 1-2 minutes.

  4. Add the orange juice and mix well. Let it simmer for 2-4 minutes and thicken. The mixture should somewhat coat the back of the spoon.

  5. Pass the liquid through a sieve so you get a smooth mixture.

  6. Let it cool for 10 minutes.

  7. Pour in the orange skins or any shallow dish.

  8. Let it set in the fridge for 8 hours or overnight. Enjoy cold from the fridge!

  9. Garnish optional: Top with chocolate shavings and orange pieces OR spread a thin layer of sugar and carefully caramelize the sugar using a blow torch on high flame.

Notes/Tips:

  • The mixture should thicken before you stop cooking it.

  • If you use orange skins, arrange them in a dish so you can move them to the fridge. Be careful while pouring it in.

  • These last well in the fridge for 2-4 days.

  • Be sure you set them in a shallow dish so they set. In deep dishes, the bottom part may not be set.

  • If you brulee the sugar, do it on high heat. The longer you blow torch it the posset can melt.
