Best Chili Garlic Dipping Sauce

It’s no secret I love garlic and anything spicy so I needed to come up a Dipping sauce that would fit that title of the best chili garlic dipping sauce. There is no raw taste of garlic and it’s delicious with a kick of spice and a hint of sweetness to balance it all together. This is super easy to make with basic ingredients available at home. It pairs perfectly for any appetizers especially anything cheesy! Seriously make this to serve with anything cheesy and it’s super delicious. I even use it when I’m cooking, from Indian food to Mexican and Italian food. It adds the flavor of garlic and spice so it’s quite convenient to keep at home!
Happy Cooking!

Servings: 6-8 servings

Prep Time: 10-15 mins

Cooking Time: 30 mins

Total Time: 45 mins

Ingredients:

  • 24-26 dried Red Chillis

  • 1 tbsp white Vinegar

  • 1/3 cup water

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil; divided

  • About 30-34 cloves of garlic

  • 1 medium red onion, finely chopped

  • 1/4 tsp pepper

  • 1/2 tsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt as per taste

  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder

  • 1.5 tbsp honey

  • 1/3 cup ketchup

Directions:

  1. In a bowl put the dried red Chillis, pour vinegar and water over it and mix well. Cover it and let it soak for 2-3 hours.

  2. In a heavy bottom pan on low heat, add 2 tbsp oil. Once warm add the garlic cloves.

  3. Give the garlic cloves a toss in the oil and let one side cook well for 7-8 mins till it’s browns. Keep the flame on low, you don’t want to garlic to burn.

  4. Once one side has browned flip it over and let it cook for 3-4 mins.

  5. Add onions and toss and let it cook for 8-10 mins. The garlic cloves should be well cooked and soft. A spatula should be able to squish it. The onions should be light brown and start to caramelise.

  6. Add the chilis and spices- salt, pepper, sugar and cumin powder and mix.

  7. Let it cool and add honey. Let it blend till smooth. Add water if needed.

  8. Once smooth add ketchup and 2 tbsp oil and blend till smooth.

  9. The dipping sauce is ready! Store it in an airtight container in the fridge. It lasts well for 3-4 weeks.

  10. You can add it while cooking or use it as a dipping sauce. When using it as a dipping sauce, I like to mix 1/4th cup with 2 tsp olive oil and serve!

Notes/Tips:

  • If you want to make it spicer add chili flakes as you like.

  • Make sure the red chilis are soft are soaking. I like to soak them the night before I make the sauce.

  • I don’t like to add the ketchup from before so that it doesn’t lose its flavor. When cooked it loses its flavor. if you don’t like the flavor of ketchup, cook it with the chilis.

  • Make sure the garlic cloves are cooked on both sides and soft to ensure the raw flavor of garlic is removed!

  • Make sure the sauce is kept in an airtight container and doesn’t come in contact with moisture and water. That will make it go bad faster.
