Wonton Chinese Bhel

Putting a spin on the famous Indo Chinese recipe- Chinese Bhel. I grew up eating this in every Indo Chinese restaurant in Kolkata, India. I had got a packet of wonton strips from the market and this was my husbands idea to make Chinese bhel from this and skip the step of frying noodles at home! And it turned out so good, I liked the fact that they are thicker than noodles which gave it a crisper bite! And obviously yes to any shortcuts which taste as good! This is so tasty, and a perfect appetizer and snack. Its crispy, spicy, cheesy and full of flavor! An Indo Chinese meal that starts with this is always a good idea! The flavors of Schezwan sauce is always a good idea according to me especially when its topped with cheese!! And if you’ve never tried Chinese Bhel this is your sign to.

Notes/Tips:

  • I used store bought wonton strips. To make your own, cut up wonton wrappers and deep fry them!

  • Homemade Schezwan sauce makes a world of difference! Recipe is here.

  • You can swap wonton strips for fried noodles if you want.

  • Serve immediately as it gets soggy and then its not as fun to eat.

  • Don’t over cook the veggies, they should still have a little bite to it! Cooking on high heat helps with that.

  • Use vegetable oil if you don’t have sesame oil.

  • You can skip the cheese if you want but I highly recommend it with a garnish of Amul cheese!
